plain jane cooking - recipes for the novice:

berries - fresh, frozen or tinned
crumble mix
mixed spice

apple crumble

  1. Place apple in an oven proof baking dish, with the berries of choice (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, etc)
  2. Make up crumble mix as per instructions and add a little mixed spice (or ground cinnamon or nutmeg)
  3. Place into pre-heated oven (180°C) for approximately 25 minutes
  4. Remove and serve with custard

For a custard with a difference try the following, add before heating as per instructions (per 500mls of custard):

  100 gm   chocolate or chocolate chips or buttons
  1 tsp   cocoa
  1 tbs   kahlua
  1 tsp   vanilla essence
  1 tsp   chocolate essence
  1 tsp   fruit essence
      he juices from the tinned berries if used

chef notes:

Crumbles can be messy cooking and make for hard to clean dishes,
so if available use a small tin foil roasting tin.
