easter:

Many
of our foods, our dishes and special treats are born out of
various religious festivals. Maybe the Easter festivities
more than any other. "Born out" being a nice term
of phrase, as this time of the year is about birth, re-birth
and new growth in the northern hemisphere.
Leading up to Easter there is of course the period of Lent,
a time of fasting. Lent coming from the Anglo Saxon word "lenstern"
meaning Spring.
Then of course there is Mardi Gras (literally translating
as "fat Tuesday") and Shrove Tuesday, this is the
period leading up to Lent, a time of festivities before one
must start to fast. Shrove Tuesday in the UK being commonly
known as Pancake Day.
The recipes in this section reflect all of the above, from
pancakes in its many forms to lead up to Easter, Hot Cross
Buns for Easter and recipes that celebrate the availability
of all those wonderful spring ingredients.
Plus some recipes for a lazy Easter Sunday brunch, so that
you can treat your loved ones. Including a quiche that is
gluten free as it uses potato not pastry for the crust and
a gluten free chocolate cake.
