Jams,
marmelades, pickles, chutneys these are all termed preserves,
and for a good reason. They were originally made to preserve
an abundance of foods for later use, when not in season.
With that in mind, we literally do not need preserves as
we once did. But they are ingrained into us now and form a
part of our day to day lives, what is a piece of toast with
jam or cold meats without pickles?
Preserves are usually defined as:
